FILE: CCFlauncher/ANNOUNCE.ccflauncher CCF Collaborative Computing Frameworks Emory University Atlanta, GA, USA August 1998 Today is the first release of CCFlauncher, the meta-tool for starting and joining a collaborative computing session. With CCFlauncher you can invite your colleagues/friends to join you in a shared X windows virtual desktop with multiparty audio conferencing, white board, and file sharing in just a few mouse clicks. CCF is a comprehensive collections of tools for doing remote collaborative computing over the internet. CCFlauncher is the tool that ties it all together and makes it easy to use and set up. Ccflauncher is available as both binaries and source. To use the binaries you must have the CCF binaries installed on your machine. To compile ccflauncher from source you must have already installed the full version of CCF from source. This source release of CCFlauncher also requires xforms (http://bragg.phys.uwm.edu/xforms) and the Xpm library. In the near future we will port it to raw xlib and GPL the code. Come download it at http://ccf.mathcs.emory.edu/ccf/software.html or ftp.mathcs.emory.edu pub/ccf Come join the discussion of CCF by sending email to majordomo@ccf.mathcs.emory.edu with contents subscribe ccf-interest or contents subscribe ccf-announce CCF is a collection of programs which enable remote collaborators to work together as if in the same room. It includes a shared virtual desktop which provides for simultaneous display of arbitrary X applications, a clearboard tool for annotating these shared application's windows, a shared dataspace for file/data sharing, and an audio conferencing tool allowing many users to join in the conversation at once without any need for the MBONE. Xbiff notifies you about incoming mail, ccflauncher notifies you about sessions. Ccflauncher is what you would use to invite others to your sessions. You define a session, including its name and what tools it will run (e.g. shared X desktop, audio conferencing), tell it whom to invite and click one button. Your ccflauncher starts everything and notifies their ccflaunchers. This is a fully functional prototype of ccflauncher. It is based on xforms, and thus not compatible with the GPL, but our intention is to port to xlib (as we have with other of our tools) and GPL the code.
