Choosing the Right Computer Science CourseThere are now two introductory courses with no prerequisite that satisfy the GER (IIA). These courses are offered every semester. (1) CS110 Computer Science Fundamentals: A broad survey of contemporary computing topics. While a small portion of the course will introduce programming concepts, this course is not intended for students anticipating further work in Computer Science. (2) CS170 Introduction to Computer Science I. An introduction to Computer Science for students anticipating further course work in Computer Science or substantive computing in other disciplines, or intending to major in Mathematics. Programming is done in the Java language together with a hands on introduction to the UNIX operating system. CS 171 is the continuation of this course. Placement in Computer Science coursesCS 110For those with no previous experience who want a broad introductory course.
