MATH 315: Numerical Analysis


  • MATH 315. Numerical Analysis

    Course material will cover computer arithmetic, systems of linear equations, interpolation and approximation, numerical quadrature, zero-finding methods, and univariate optimization techniques.

    Particulars: Homework assignments include programming projects using Matlab (which can be downloaded from http://it.emory.edu/software/, click on "Software Distribution Center"). A good background in Calculus and Linear Algebra is required, together with some exposure to computer programming.

    Ian Gladwell, James G. Nagy and Warren Ferguson, Jr., Introduction to Scientific Computing Using Matlab, available for purchase here.

    Matlab tutorial:

    An introduction to Matlab will be offered on Wednesday January 18, 5-6PM, in the Computer Lab (Room E308A) and repeated on Thursday, January 19, 5-6PM (same room).
