JFLAP Directory

JFLAP is a Java program used to design and simulate common computational models (DFA's, NFA's, regexps, PDA's, CFG's, TM's, various grammars). You may run JFLAP at Math/CS by entering the command /home/cs524000/bin/jflap at a shell prompt. Or if you have Java on your own computer, try this:

• Click JFLAP.jar (below). If it starts, great!
• Otherwise, download JFLAP.jar to your computer desktop.
• If your browser renamed the file to JFLAP.zip, then rename [it back to JFLAP.jar.
• Double-click the JFLAP.jar file (or right click → open with → some variant of Java).
• If that didn't work (Windows?), try variants of this command: java -jar JFLAP.jar

• At Math/CS the default Java is 1.5, but JFLAP.jar (starting with version 7.0) requires 1.6. The jflap script does the right thing.
• Version 7.0 has bugs with nondeterministic TM's and multi-tape TM's. To avoid these issues, use version 6.4 (which can be invoked by the script jflap-old).
