Fairness in the IEEE 802.11 Network

Providing quality of service (QoS) guarantees is an important goal of a computer network. In the last decade, many efficient algorithms have been developed which can ensure fairness among different flows passing through a shared router. Recently, the IEEE 802.11 network protocol has become the industrial standard for wireless communication. The protocol provides rudimentary support for fairness and other quality of service. This talk will provide a brief overview on the current research in enhancing the 802.11 protocol to ensure better fairness in future wireless protocols.
Shun-Yan Cheung is Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Emory University. His research interest is in performance evaluation of network protocols, provisioning QoS to high speed networks, and database interoperability.
