Mic's Mini Biography

I was born near Paris but lived most of my childhood on the east coast of the USA. I first visited visited Emory for a summer math program, while I was attending nearby Roswell high school. My parents ended up in Greensboro, North Carolina.

I received a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Duke in 1986, and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the MIT Theory Group in 1991, supervised by Mike Sipser. From there I took a postdoc at UBC, and then an NSF postdoc to both Princeton and UCSD (following my wife from IAS to UCSD).

In Fall 1995 we both moved to Emory. We have two daughters at Fernbank, born in 1997 and 2000. I was tenured in 2001. We were on sabbatical near Boston in 2002-2003.
